THE BURSARY FUND IN PROVINCE 12

THE 2011/12 BURSARY FUND APPEAL

The Catenian Bursary Fund is maintained solely from the donations of Brothers and Circles, and for some years now has had an uncertain future.  Therefore in order to secure the fund the Trustees are launching an appeal to all Catenians.  We are asking that every Catenian makes a personal donation of £1.00 a month (£12.00 a year) by standing order in favour of the Catenian Bursary Fund Limited.  It is also most important that this donation is Gift-Aided so that the Fund can reclaim the tax you will have paid on your donation.

Of course we don’t want to stop the many other activities that Circles get up to to help the Bursary Fund, but we do need this regular, routine income stream to secure the Fund’s future.

If every Brother in the Association, (all 90,000 of us), gave this small amount we would secure the fund for the future.

Please see your Circle Charity Officer who will give you the required Gift Aid declaration form, and your unique reference number and the payment details which must use on your standing order so that it can be identified by Head Office.

Please make 2011/12 the year that we secured the future of the Bursary Fund!
Many thanks.                            Bob Hussey  Assoc. Bursary Committee

Recent history in Province 12 -
At this time, there are two recipients of Bursary Fund grants who have been writing an 'on line' diary as they carried out their projects abroad during 2010.
1) We followed the journey of
Lewis Linehan - a young man from Thornbury - who spent about 9 months in Tanzania training priests and brothers in the Salvatorian Order about communications, and to produce their own Catholic publications and improved catechetical materials for gaining new vocations etc. ........ He is now back home.
He was partly supported with a £1000 grant from the Catenian Bursary Fund (arranged with help from the Weston-super-Mare Circle) to enable him to make this trip.

Usually, we may read an article in CATENA from someone who has completed their year's project. However, Lewis kept a blog (diary) with pictures of his experience there. The complete blog has now been converted into a permanent archive and is -

Since his return, Lewis has decided to join the Salvatorians and is starting his training for the priesthood.

2)
Rebecca Gennard received a £300 grant from the Catenian Bursary Fund (arranged with help from Hereford Circle) and travelled to Cambodia in January 2010.

She is using her skills, training and knowledge as a textiles designer to work for three months as a volunteer with Outreach International and the Cambodia Handicrafts Association in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. She is also back home.

[Rebecca is also keen for others to read her blog]
These are excellent examples of how our Bursary Fund is helping young people.
